This is the repository for my short stories. Each lives on a sub-page, which you can access from the menu above.
They’re in no particular order, but the first one I wrote was The Ferry. It turned out to be the inspiration for Stories From a Faraway Place (and is the first chapter of that novel), since it opened up so many possibilities in my head.
I enjoy writing short stories. It feels so different from writing a novel. Oddly enough, it’s not the constraints of the form that make it challenging. What are the constraints anyway? See Me, Feel Me is over 18,000 words long, but I still consider it to be a short story. It’s more like the possibilities. Things can happen in a short story that probably wouldn’t in a novel. At least, if they did, then you’d have to make sure the rest of the novel is consistent in some way. That might make something of greater length too difficult to actually get through.
Anyway, I like writing them and I often get ideas for something that might make a good story, then I try and write it. I’m publishing most of them here, even the ones that don’t work so well.
